Why This Shop Exists — Dr. Tom’s Philosophy

🔬

Clinical Testing, Not Brand Deals

Every product has been personally tested or used on real patients. No brand pays me to rank their product higher.

⚖️

Honest Expectations

I tell you what each product actually does — and what it can’t. No “miracle” claims, no 30-day cures for chronic conditions.

🎯

Condition-Specific Rankings

The best shoe for diabetic neuropathy is different from the best shoe for a runner with plantar fasciitis. Rankings reflect this.

🚨

Knowing When to Escalate

Every category page includes red-flag symptoms that mean you need an in-office evaluation, not another Amazon purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you get paid to recommend these products?
I use Amazon Associates affiliate links (tag biernact-20) and select partner links (Levanta) that pay me a small commission if you purchase through them. I do NOT accept payment from any brand to rank their product higher. I do NOT accept free inventory in exchange for positive reviews. My rankings are based on clinical efficacy data, personal use, and real patient outcomes. My affiliate disclosure is always visible. If a product becomes available at a lower price or a better alternative launches, I re-rank accordingly.
Why should I buy through your links vs. Amazon directly?
You pay exactly the same Amazon price either way. The affiliate commission comes out of Amazon’s margin, not your pocket. Buying through my link costs you nothing extra and supports the time I spend creating this clinical content (which I’d otherwise need to monetize through paid sponsorships I find ethically worse). You can also buy directly at Amazon if you prefer — neither my rankings nor the products change.
What if I need products not listed in your shop?
My shop intentionally covers the most common conditions I treat: bunions, diabetic feet, orthotic needs, shoe selection, bracing, recovery, and toenail fungus. If your condition isn’t covered (e.g., congenital foot deformities, pediatric conditions, advanced surgical recovery), call the office at (810) 206-1402 for a direct recommendation. We also cover broader conditions in our main blog.
Can I use these products instead of seeing a podiatrist?
For most mild-to-moderate conditions, a well-chosen OTC product is a reasonable first step. However, EVERY category page lists red-flag symptoms that mean you need an in-office evaluation regardless of how much product you’ve tried. These include: diabetic neuropathy with any wound, severe pain limiting walking, rapid swelling or color change, failed 6+ months of compliant OTC treatment, or post-surgical concerns. When in doubt, call the office.
Do you ship these products yourself?
No. All products link to third-party retailers (primarily Amazon and Levanta partners). I curate and rank the products; the retailers handle inventory, shipping, returns, and customer service. This lets me focus on clinical education without running an e-commerce warehouse. If you have a problem with a specific product order, contact the retailer directly (Amazon customer service for Amazon orders, etc.).
How often are these rankings updated?
Each category page is reviewed and re-ranked at least annually, with interim updates when significant new research, product launches, or pricing changes occur. All pages currently show “Updated April 2026” reflecting this year’s comprehensive review. Major new entries (e.g., a new orthotic brand with strong clinical data) trigger out-of-cycle updates. Individual product links are audited for affiliate tag validity and price accuracy quarterly.

Need Personalized Guidance?

OTC products are a great starting point, but no website replaces an in-person evaluation. If your symptoms aren’t improving, if you’re diabetic, or if you just want a professional opinion before you buy — come see us.
